Create Fun #EdTech Review Games and Quizzes & Publicly Host in Dropbox

This is a fun way to create simple review materials for your students to play in class or for homework. We will be using the Quiz Game Master site and then hosting our “quiz” in a public folder in Dropbox for students to access. It works well, is simple, and costs nothing!!!

Quiz Game Master is one of many sites on the web that allows you to generate games using your own questions. The cool part about this site is you can download the quiz folder and upload it to your own website. If you don’t have a website, stick it in the Public folder in DropBox. This article will show you how in the steps below.
First, choose between one of the many templates available. Some are better than others, so play around before using in class.
Follow the instructions in the template for writing your questions and answers. Most of the ones I tried required that the correct answer be first and the distractors listed below. For this example I chose the Sink the Fleet/Firestorm template.

Follow the template instructions to insert your questions and answers.

Some templates require a certain number(s) of questions. I also noticed that some were better than others at randomizing the choices in the game. Once you have all your questions and answers in the template, click on “Build My Quiz” at the bottom of the screen.

Then test your quiz and/or download your quiz on the next screen. You may need to unzip the file. Doing that creates a folder that you can place on a web server. If you do not have a web server. Simply drag it to the Public folder in a Dropbox account. Create one free here.

To share your quiz live with students, open the game folder and look for the file with the .html extension. Rt click on that file and select copy public link. Share that link with your students so they can play the game. You can shorten the link using a site like TinyURL or Ow.ly to make it easier.

You can play a sample quiz by clicking on the link below. This was generated as a test to make sure the method works. It is “hosted” in my Dropbox account Public folder.
